Ardgartan Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Coilessan Road

Arrochar

Dunbartonshire

G83 7AR

Please note: this site is  Camping And Caravanning Club members only.

A small site with grass and a few hard standing pitches on the shore of Loch Long.  All the pitches slope, usually in more than one direction - lumps of wood for use as levelling ramps and chocks are available on site.  If your unit has to be 100% level, this is probably not the site for you.

The facilities are not new and therefore basic by today's standards - no disabled facilities, no parent/toddler room, no private wash cubicles.  Having said that, they are in good working order and cleaned regularly.  Ladies side had 3 loos, 3 basins and 1 shower - would guess the gents was similar but don't know.

It does have laundry and dishwashing facilities.

To approach the site, turn in past the Forestry Commission Visitor Centre at Ardgartan and follow the signs (for the Camping Club site - maybe needs updating methinks???) for some distance along a single track forestry road with passing places.  About the only thing within reasonable walking distance would be the Visitor Centre, for shop etc. you would have to go back to Arrochar.

Quite a few fishermen on this site and reception stocked a minimal selection of fishing stuff.  One chap had some sort of inflatable with outboard motor (highly technical description there!) which he launched from the beach to go fishing.

Gray's Note - - I think she means an RIB with outboard

Would we visit again - yes, definitely.  The site is right on the shore of the sea loch and there are nice walks along the loch shore and through the forest.  We had a fantastic view from our hard standing because the grass area was not in use due to water logging, but even if the site was full, virtually all pitches would have at least some sort of view of the loch.

For me the location more than made up for the slope.
